Julies Cluttered Attic
When Julie called us up she had, like many of our clients, reached a point where she had simply had enough.
Julie had tried to de-clutter before and not succeeded. She had been able to make a visible difference when she had a blitz on the clutter, but for some reason she just couldn't make the clutter stay away for very long.

Julie came to us at a time when she was ready to clear her clutter.
Having signed up for the top tips and attended the FREE Banbury Clutter Cluster, she had a good idea of how we work, how to break down her time and what she wanted to achieve.
Indeed, Julie had already cleared the clutter in her bedroom before Clare arrived.
Like many people, Julie had started to implement the advice and ideas in the top tips on-line, but having had a lot of clutter and been doing it for quite a while, she wanted the extra pair of hands and process for continuing further and tackling her real worry area – the attic.
Julie was also brave enough to be interviewed for BBC Radio Oxford on the day of her home visit!
When Clare turned up at Julies home, Julie was open minded and trusted the process. Just like everyone who has help in their home, Julie and Clare had had a one hour telephone consultation prior to the day of hands on help which enabled Clare to provide Julie with a personalised CD, and to enable Julie to start thinking differently about her clutter.
So, after the usual hour of ‘preparation’ which included Julie getting clear about how she wanted her attic to look, sound, feel and smell when it was clear of clutter (eBook 1, worksheet 7), they got on with the doing.
When Clare said to Julie ‘OK, I want you to go up into the attic and bring down a manageable handful of clutter’, Julie told Clare that she felt physically sick. So Clare reassured her that they were doing this in small steps and she was only to pass down a small amount that they could go through, which Julie did, and after ½ hour of repeating the simple process Julie noticed that although she had felt sick before they started, she hadn’t felt it once they did start the 'doing'.
‘I think it was the reassurance and focus that you gave me’ said Julie. ‘Like so many things it’s the anticipation that’s worse than the actual doing’.
As Julie has discovered during the follow up calls, she’s re-evaluating what’s important to her in life. ‘I used to think possessions were important, but now I realised that it’s doing things with people and memories that matter to me more. I mean, why did I keep the ends of carpet in the loft for carpet I don’t even have any more? Or baby bottles from when my 11 year old son was a baby?!’
It’s the anticipation that’s worse than the actual doing’.
