Recycle Week 2010
Do you have residents who might reduce their waste and increase recycling rates if they had help to de-clutter and organise their home?
If so, we can help them and compliment the work you are doing with them both as part of the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle message, AND as part of your Recycle Week in June because we provide practical, hands on help with household de-cluttering and organising to people in their homes.
Maybe you’re familiar with people who have lots of ‘stuff’ and what we experience when we help people de-clutter their homes:
- Only 9.8% of people who de-clutter their homes recycle their unwanted clutter
- 8.9% of people who have a lot of ‘stuff’ don’t consider the reuse and recycle options and just take it to the tip
- 18.7% of people who have a lot of ‘stuff’ put the things they don’t want to keep in their landfill wheelie bin – even if it’s a recyclable material or could be re-used / donated
- People who have a lot of ‘stuff’ only think about what to keep and what to put in their landfill rubbish – thinking about the reduce, reuse and recycle message just adds to their sense of overwhelm.
The figures are even higher for corporate offices that we work in.
So how can this help you with the reduce, reuse, recycle message, or Recycle Week?
If you have residents who struggle with their clutter in terms of knowing HOW to de-clutter and what to do with the unwanted clutter. From our experience, the reduce, reuse and recycle message doesn’t register in these households, much less during recycle Week, simply because their priority is to de-clutter and get organised.
The way we can help you with the reduce, reuse, recycle message, or during Recycle Week is to be part of your education programme, targeting specifically households that need practical help with de-cluttering.
Can you see a link between Recycling and De-Cluttering?
It may be useful to know that Clare Baker started the company after working at WRAP (Waste Resource Action Programme) and realising that implementing recycling in a home is a struggle for people who have too much ‘stuff’, hence wanting to help people at a practical level to de-clutter AND start recycling.
So how can we help during Recycle Week?
We can provide this help in a variety of ways, 4 examples of which are:- Recycle Week Street / Road De-clutters – taking specific Streets / Roads that have 20% or more households who would like to have help to de-clutter and then provide Clutter Clearing Consultants to work with those households to de-clutter and introduce recycling at a practical level. Shredding companies, recycling vehicles, charities etc can all be involved for the unwanted clutter, and results shared as a sign of what the Street / council achieved.
- Recycle Week FREE Workshops – enabling residents to attend a FREE workshop where they can learn ‘how’ to de-clutter and how to organise their homes to accommodate recycling at a practical level.
- Recycle Week FREE Clutter Clearing Phone Helpline – enabling residents to ask a Clutter Clearing Expert for help and advice during Recycle Week.
- FREE resources on the council website for Recycle Week – videos (we have videos on youtube.com that can be linked to the council website), information sheets on specific types of clutter, teleseminars etc.
If you, or any of your colleagues would like to discuss in greater detail any opportunities to help increase your recycling rates and reduce landfill waste through helping households de-clutter and get organised, then please feel free to give me a call on:

How do we work?
We work with people in their homes, on the telephone and by providing them with the resources to learn a new way of de-cluttering which is more than simply deciding ‘to keep’ or ‘to throw away’, as is the traditional way people de-clutter.
How does it help the person?
They are able to overcome the most common problems associated with people struggling to de-clutter, namely that they:
In our experience, breaking the vicious cycle that they are in is the start of creating a clutter free and more spacious home where they have the space and time to implement recycling into the home.
