My answer, without hesitation, was my determination to understand my challenge with clutter - what people who were 'naturally' clutter free were doing that I wasn't doing, how they made decisions about what to do with their clutter, how they seemed to effortlessly make a visible and tangible difference in a very short period of time (even if they didn't de-clutter all the clutter in one go) where it comes from, why some people have it and others don't, why we struggle to clear and control it.
I had previously been a well organised, clutter free person - in fact I'd been a PA, Office Manager and Project Manager in my professional life, so why had it suddenly become so overwhelming and out of control, to such an extent that a 'tidy up' just didn't get rid of it?When I had my Clutter Crisis there were no 'professional de-clutterers' out there who I could call on to help me in a way that taught me how to get back control - everyone out there was going to make judgements on whether my clutter should 'stay' or 'go', which made me panic at the thought of someone throwing away something that was valuable to me, even if it wasn't 'valuable' in their opinion.
So I realised that if I was going to deal with my clutter problem, I'd have to do whatever it took to figure out what I wasn't doing right by watching the clutter free people, and then start doing what they were doing.
As a result of doing just that, I set up the business and have been lucky to help and support other people who are prepared to do whatever it takes to clear their clutter in a variety of ways that suits them best.
Most people are weekend de-clutterers' and organisers. They set aside a day or two to have a 'blitz' then wonder why the clutter returns. They buy storage solutions thinking that it'll make a difference to the clutter. They move the clutter from pile to pile, corner to corner, room to room. They weed out things they know can be thrown away. They have friends and family in to 'help', only the friends and family members aren't as patient and understanding as us and can't understand why they don't just 'get rid of it'!
In fact, most people don't even realise that Clutter Clearing is a skill that they can learn (and then teach to friends, family and children so that the inherited 'clutter gene' doesn't get passed on further down the family tree).
Those people who become clutter free
are those who do whatever it takes
to learn how to clear their clutter and control it.
Most people say they can't afford the time or money to make this type of commitment to their de-cluttering and organising - but I suspect you're not 'most people' because you've sought out help for your clutter issue, and you've read this far down the page which suggests you're determined to get to grips with your clutter challenge.
You're lucky - you've found this website, you can sign up for the FREE top tips and commit to turning the FREE top tips that you will receive into practice. That's commitment. And you need to know that no one here is going to judge you, your home, your life or your belongings. I imagine you have enough gilt, feelings of failure, frustration and overwhelm going on already, we don't need to add to that!
I can teach you the skill of how to de-clutter, but I can't give you more time in your life and that's the one thing that you're going to have to commit to if you want to clear your clutter. That's why most people struggle with their clutter.
I have spent 7 years immersed in the study of clutter. I have worked with Obsessive Compulsive Hoarders, people at crossroads in their lives personally and professionally, people who are recently separated, divorced or widowed and filling the 'void' that is created with 'stuff', people who live in fear of the future so hold onto the past, people who are lonely and feel unworthy so buy 'clutter' to feel safe and secure. That, in a nutshell is how I became an expert - by working with people in your position - and worse.Part of de-cluttering and organising your home relates to issues such as decision making, storage solutions, and categorising. But the subject also goes much, much deeper.
There is a skill required to de-clutter effectively and efficiently - and there is a psychology to it too. There are 'secrets' to de-cluttering which those who don't have clutter don't even realise they are using when they automatically de-clutter and organise their homes or offices.
By learning and applying those 'secrets', you can de-clutter quickly and easily.
You Don't Need to Spend 7 Years Doing What I did
I've spent the last 7 years absorbed in finding out how to de-clutter and organise your home quickly and easily. I started with my training in human behaviour and why people do what they do, then applied that knowledge to the issue of clutter, and have studied over 600 people who have clutter that's out of control and is a problem for them.
I've work with people from all walks of life and with all variety of homes - from one bedroom bedsits to 12 bedorom mansions (and a few celebrities who required the confidentiality agreement in place before I helped them!). All in all, I estimate that my quest has cost me at least £100,000 in training and research. It was money well spent because it's it's enabled me to help more and more people clear their clutter and get organised - for good.
It's enabled me to help people turn my unqiue process in the eBooks and workbooks -rather than the pretty before and after pictures in the books they ALWAYS have amongst the clutter, seen on the TV progammes they've recorded and the magazine articles on the 'perfect home' that they've cut out and kept 'just in case they ever de-clutter' - into a reality. And it's literally changed people's lives.
They started with de-cluttering their physical clutter and realised it helped them de-clutter their mental and life clutter too.
You don't have to spend as long as I did acquiring this knowledge and expertise.
I can help you help yourself or help you face to face. The choice is yours.
I can give you access to our process that will save you time and, in the long run money, with self help or one to one help - whereever you live, and whatever your budget.
