Top Tips

  1. Before you start clearing the clutter, list what you want to do with that room or area when it's cleared - you need a clear goal to aim for.

  2. Chunk down your clutter - focus on just one area or room at a time, and focus on clearing it first. Don't think 3 steps ahead - only when you know what and how much you're keeping can you think about where and how to store it.

  3. Have more than two categories for your clutter - if you only have 'to keep' or 'to throw away' the decision about what to do with something is much harder.

  4. Set yourself a deadline and reward yourself each time you spend an hour or more clearing your clutter.

  5. Remind yourself what your goal is each time you spend time clearing the clutter - this will help re-motivate you.
