7 TOP TIPS FOR KITCHEN CLUTTER

  1. When you do the stock take exercise on Step 1 of your Journey, and then update your stock list every week to do your weekly meal planner, let go of anything that’s out of date
  2. When you do the stock take exercise on Step 1 of your Journey, and then update your stock list every week to do your weekly meal planner, notice what stays on your stock take list for more than 1 calendar month. It may be in date, but if you haven’t used it for 1 calendar month, let it go to a food bank so that it can go to someone who NEEDS it and will USE it NOW
  3. How many cups, mugs, glasses, plates, saucepans, dishes etc do you have in your cupboards? How many people live in your home? What’s the maximum number of people you could entertain in your home at any one time? Multiply the bigger of those 2 numbers by 2 (1 in use, 1 spare) and that’s how many you will REALISTICALLY use and therefore REALISTICALLY need
  4. You may justify keeping more cups, mugs, glasses, plates, saucepans, dishes etc than you NEED right now, telling yourself that you ‘will’ need them and use them once you’ve cleared all your clutter and are able to entertain in your home.  That may be true, but better to let go of the excess NOW and buy what you NEED when you will actually use it
  5. How many kitchen gadgets do you have that you never have and – realistically – never will use? Yes, they’re always marketed as ‘the gadget you didn’t even know you needed – until you had one’, but they rarely are. They seemed fun at the time you bought them, but you might not even have all the pieces of that gadget to be able to use it. If you didn’t use it in 2024, let it go
  6. Remember the 80:20 rule – we DON’T use 80% of the things we have even 20% of the time, so let 80% of them go to someone who will use them quicker than you will
  7. Just because you WERE the hostess in the past, doesn’t mean you HAVE to be again in your Clutter Free Life. It also doesn’t mean it has to be all or nothing. You can still be a hostess without having to do all the cooking. For example, If you don’t want to put yourself under the pressure and expectation of creating amazing meals in your clutter free kitchen AND entertain in your home, think of adaptations to the traditional hostess with the most-ess. Remember – you are inviting people into your home to spend quality time with them and make memories. Amazing, restaurant quality food is not an expectation they have of you. E.g. you could just host. Invite them round for a takeaway, then have it at your dinner table with your posh crockery and cutlery. Or you host while your guests each bring a course, while you supply the drinks.

You can clear your clutter fast, or you can clear your clutter forever, but you can’t clear your clutter forever, fast.
