THE 7 STEP JOURNEY

A PROVEN, EMOTIONALLY SAFE, LIFE-CHANGING PATH TO BECOMING —
AND STAYING — CLUTTER-FREE HOME

Common-new-img

THE 7 STEP JOURNEY –

FROM UNDERSTANDING TO CONTROL

THIS ISN’T A QUICK FIX.
IT’S NOT A WEEKEND BLITZ.

  • check_icon

It's a steady, compassionate process that meets you exactly where you are - and walks with you, step-by-step, until your home feels like a place you can breathe again.

  • check_icon

Whether you prefer to work independently, with community support, or with private guidance, the Journey adapts to you.

  • check_icon

For over 25 years, this Journey has helped people who have struggled with clutter for years, decades, or even their entire lives.

  • check_icon

It’s not a blitz. It’s not someone coming into your home to “fix” things for you. And it’s not a quick tidyup that collapses the moment life gets busy again.

  • check_icon

This is a gentle, structured, step-by-step online programme that teaches you the skills, routines, and emotional resilience needed to stay clutter free forever — even if you’ve tried everything before.

WHY THE JOURNEY WORKS

(And why blitzing, TV style makeovers, and professional organisers don’t create permanent change)

Find out more >

Most people with clutter have lived through the same painful cycle:

  • check_icon

    A burst of motivation

  • check_icon

    A big clearout

  • check_icon

    A temporary sense of relief

  • check_icon

…followed by the clutter “growing back”

Not because you’re lazy.

Not because you’re disorganised.

But because habits, beliefs, and emotional patterns take time to change.

The Journey works because it:

  • check_icon

teaches you why clutter has been so hard for you

  • check_icon

breaks the cycle of accumulation before you start letting go

  • check_icon

    builds confidence slowly and safely

  • check_icon

gives you routines that prevent the clutter returning

  • check_icon

treats your home like a long-term transformation, not a weekend project

  • check_icon

supports you with accountability, community, and structure

It’s best approached like a part-time course — and yes, many people with full-time jobs have succeeded because the Journey is designed to fit real life.

This isn’t about clearing a room — it’s about understanding your clutter, your habits and changing your relationship with your home.

This is the exact Journey Clare used to clear her own clutter 25 years ago — and it has worked for thousands since.

THE 7 STEPS

Find out more >
understanding-img

STEP 1 – UNDERSTANDING

Before you let go of anything, you learn:

  • check_icon

    WHY you struggle with clutter

  • check_icon

WHY your past attempts haven’t worked

  • check_icon

HOW the Clutter Clearing Conveyor Belt explains your patterns

  • check_icon

HOW to apply this understanding to your home and your life

There is no expectation to let go of anything yet.

This step is about clarity, not action.

understanding-img
overwhelm-img-1000x700

STEP 2 – ACCUMULIATON

This is where everything starts to change.

You learn how to stop the clutter growing back, using:

  • check_icon

    the 7 Action-Focused Categories

  • check_icon

the psychology behind why they work

  • check_icon

weekly routines for paperwork and digital clutter

You begin with paperwork and digital clutter because:

  • check_icon

it’s a training ground for balanced, realistic decisions

  • check_icon

you don’t need physical space to work on it

  • check_icon

    everyone has backlog paperwork

  • check_icon

weekly paperwork sessions help you manage your finances

  • check_icon

most people start saving money on this step

This step builds confidence, stability, and early wins.

overwhelm-img-1000x700

STEP 3 – DECISION MAKING

You continue your weekly routines and learn:

  • check_icon

tools for making balanced, realistic decisions

  • check_icon

how to prepare for your big and bulky backlog clutter

  • check_icon

how to strengthen your confidence in letting go

This step sets you up for the biggest shift of all.

STEP 4 – MOUNT EVEREST

This is when everything shifts, because you begin clearing your big and bulky backlog clutter in whole areas and rooms of your home.

You:

  • check_icon

use the tools from Step 3

  • check_icon

clear your first area on the “climb”

  • check_icon

clear your second area on the “descent”

  • check_icon

build routines to keep these areas clutter free

This is the step where members often say:

“I can’t believe this is my home.”

mt-everest-img
Sentimental-img

STEP 5 – SENTIMENTAL

You learn how to honour the meaningful things you find in your clutter — without drowning in emotion or guilt.

You continue:

  • check_icon

    digital clutter sessions

  • check_icon

    paperwork clutter sessions

  • check_icon

big and bulky backlog clutter sessions

  • check_icon

maintaining the areas you’ve already cleared

Sentimental-img
Clothes-Clutter-img

STEP 6 – ORGANISATION

Once you have at least three clutter-free areas that have stayed clutter free, you learn how to organise your home in a way that works for your life.

You also learn how to maintain your Clutter Conveyor Belt so the clutter never grows back.

STEP 7 – CONTROL

Once you have at least three clutter-free areas that have stayed clutter free, you learn how to organise your home in a way that works for your life.

You also learn how to maintain your Clutter Conveyor Belt so the clutter never grows back.

A GENTLE NOTE ABOUT STEP 1

Step 1 is, for many people, the hardest and slowest step — not because you’re doing anything wrong, but because it asks you to look gently and honestly at:

  • check_icon

    why you struggle with clutter

  • check_icon

the patterns that have kept you stuck

  • check_icon

the beliefs, fears, and habits that have shaped your home

  • check_icon

your real life, your real home, and your real history

This can feel uncomfortable. It can stir up resistance.

It’s also the point where people are most at risk of giving up — not because they can’t do it, but because they’re finally seeing the truth of what they’ve been carrying.

over-a-cup-of-coffee-img

WHY SUPPORT MATTERS

The people who complete their Journey the fastest are usually:

  • check_icon

    Group Journey Members

  • check_icon

    Private Journey Members

  • check_icon

Journey members who also have a therapist to support them alongside their Journey

Not because therapy is required — it isn’t.

But because Step 1 brings up emotions, resistance, and long-held patterns. Having a safe place to explore those feelings makes the whole Journey:

over-a-cup-of-coffee-img
  • check_icon

    quicker

  • check_icon

    smoother

  • check_icon

    less overwhelming

  • check_icon

    more emotionally grounded

You do NOT need a therapist to succeed — many people complete their Journey without one.

But support and accountability make a profound difference, and if you already have a therapist — or you’re open to working with one — they can help you:

  • check_icon

process what Step 1 brings up

  • check_icon

    understand your resistance

  • check_icon

stay grounded when things feel uncomfortable

  • check_icon

keep going when your instinct is to retreat

HOW THE JOURNEY WORKS

Find out more >
Routine-Clare-Baker_img

STRUCTURE

Before we talk about how long the Journey takes, it’s important to understand how the Journey is designed to work — because the structure is what makes long-term success possible.

The Journey is built around:

  • check_icon

short, focused bursts of “doing the doing”

  • check_icon

    a predictable termtime rhythm

  • check_icon

    a predictable termtime rhythm

  • check_icon

a slow, steady buildup of confidence and skills

  • check_icon

the emotional reality that Step 1 is the slowest

  • check_icon

the psychological truth that consistency beats intensity

Once you understand these foundations, the timeline finally makes sense.

hour-glass-img

WHY YOU ONLY WORK ON YOUR JOURNEY FOR A MAXIMUM OF 2 HOURS A DAY, 5 DAYS A WEEK

Your brain can only make good decisions for about 2 hours before it becomes overwhelmed, foggy, or reactive.

Trying to declutter for longer is exactly why you’ve burned out in the past.

This is why the Journey requires:

  • check_icon

no more than 2 hours a day

  • check_icon

    5 days a week

  • check_icon

for no more than 5 weeks at a time

This isn’t optional.

It’s neuroscience.

THE CLUTTER CLEARING TERM—TIME SCHEDULE

Before we talk about how long the Journey takes, it’s important to understand how the Journey is designed to work — because the structure is what makes long-term success possible.

The Journey is built around:

  • check_icon

short, focused bursts of “doing the doing”

  • check_icon

    a predictable termtime rhythm

  • check_icon

    regular rest periods

  • check_icon

a slow, steady buildup of confidence and skills

  • check_icon

the emotional reality that Step 1 is the slowest

  • check_icon

the psychological truth that consistency beats intensity

Once you understand these foundations, the timeline finally makes sense.

trees-Clare-Baker-img

WHY THIS MATTERS

Your brain needs:

  • check_icon

    repetition

  • check_icon

    routine

  • check_icon

    rest

  • check_icon

    integration time

When you work in 5-week cycles, something remarkable happens:

  • check_icon

    your learning deepens

  • check_icon

    your confidence grows

  • check_icon

    your routines strengthen

  • check_icon

    your resistance decreases

  • check_icon

    your overwhelm stays manageable

  • check_icon

    your progress becomes sustainable

trees-Clare-Baker-img
Picture3

WHY YOU CAN’T "JUST KEEP GOING UNTIL IT’S ALL DONE"

If blitzing worked, you wouldn’t be here.

The Journey is built on small, manageable, bitesized pieces because:

  • check_icon

We need to learn to manage our overwhelmed

  • check_icon

    Progress matters more than speed

  • check_icon

    Routine matters more than quantity

  • check_icon

One video watched and actioned is significant progress

  • check_icon

Rest is part of the process

Making-Decisions-Clare-Baker-img

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

(The honest answer: it depends —
and that’s a good thing)

Everyone starts from a different place, with different levels of support, different life pressures, and different levels of resistance.

If you’ve been trying to clear your clutter for years, you’re not alone — 78% of people don’t know how to tackle it.

What we can tell you is this:

  • check_icon

The more support and accountability you have, the faster you progress

  • check_icon

The less support you have, the longer it takes and the more frequently people get ‘stuck’ — not because you’re failing, but because you’re human

Most people spend years — often decades — trying to clear their clutter with books, friends, family, or one‑off help from ‘experts’, long before they discover this Journey.

That’s why support shortens the Journey.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Find out more >
Making-Decisions-Clare-Baker-img

EVERYTHING YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING

Do I have to clear my clutter quickly?

No.

In fact, trying to go fast is one of the main reasons clutter “grows back”.
The Journey is designed to be slow, steady, and emotionally safe.

Do I get access immediately, or do I have to wait for the next term?

When you join the Group Journey, you don’t have to wait — you’ll receive immediate access to:

  • the full 7 Step Journey videos
  • the Members Only VIP Circle Facebook group
  • the End-of-Term Social Gathering (if you join before the last Monday of the current term)

Your 5-Week Group Trial Term officially begins on the first day of the next Clutter Clearing Term, when the full group structure opens, including:

  • Weekly Monday Social Gatherings
  • Weekly Wednesday Sessions
  • Friday Group Tutorials

This gives you a soft, safe runway into the Journey — without pressure, without overwhelm, and without waiting alone.

Do I need to be motivated before I start?

No.

Motivation comes after you start — not before.
The structure of the Journey creates motivation through routine, not willpower.

Do I need lots of time?

No.
You “do the doing” for up to a maximum of 2 hours a day, 5 days a week, during Clutter Clearing Terms.

This is based on neuroscience — your brain simply can’t make good decisions for longer than that.

What if I work full-time or have health issues?

Many members work full-time, care for others, or manage chronic health conditions.
The Journey is designed to fit real life, not the other way around.

Do I need a tidy space to start?

No.
You can begin Step 1 with zero clear space.
You don’t need space until Step 2 — and even then, only a tiny amount.

What if I’ve tried everything before?

Most members have.
The Journey works because it focuses on the psychology of clutter, not just the stuff.

Will I have to throw everything away?

No.
You’ll learn how to make balanced, realistic decisions that are right for YOU— not forced ones.
There is no pressure to let go before you’re ready.

What if I get stuck or overwhelmed?

That’s normal — and expected.

You’ll learn about overwhelm and how to manage it on your Journey in the first week of the Journey videos.
The Journey is designed to support you through the emotional wobbles, especially in Step 1.

Do I need a therapist?

No.
But if you already have one, or you’re open to working with one, it can make Step 1 quicker and smoother.

How long does the Journey take?

It depends on your level of support, your routines, and your life circumstances.
Most people take:

  • DIY: 7+ years
  • Group: 5+ years
  • Private: 3+ years

This is normal —your clutter didn’t appear in a weekend, and you won’t clear it in one either.

What happens when I finish?

You graduate — and we don’t abandon you.
You receive ongoing support, community, and access to the VIP Circle for life.

Do I need to apply?

Only for Private Journey Membership.

  • DIY: No application — start anytime, an ongoing monthly membership.
  • Group: Start with a Group Trial Term Package – a one of payment and 5 week commitment, with the option to continue thereafter.
  • Private: Book a suitability with Clare, which will be followed by a Private Trial Term Package – a one off payment and 5 week commitment, with the option to continue thereafter.

What Journey Members Say

User

"This is a profound and interesting process and you will learn things about yourself, your upbringing and experiences in life, the effects of which you didn't realise at the start."

User

"You'll become friends with a group of people who totally understand and support you, so you won't have to keep your clutter under lock and key, they won't be blaming you for it, they are going through the same feelings."

User

"There will be tough times when you'll want to give up but Clare has a great knowledge of how to support and understand your crises, and amazingly, you'll find you'll come out the other side wiser and more accepting of where and why your clutter exists."

User

"You will go through some fascinating lightbulb moments which will show you obvious things about your life so far, but you hadn't understood their profundity before the Journey."

User

"This journey is so transforming my life entirely. What I am learning through this journey and interactions with the other journey members is uncanny how it totally relates to every aspect of my entire life history, relationships, family and society. It is a revelation experienced every day as I let this global family on this journey shape my realities. Yes, as I think about it, truly uncanny. What a gift they all are to me."

User

"I am most proud of myself for not giving up & I’m on step 5 at this stage - there were plenty of times that I wanted to give up as some days I didn’t feel like doing my journey for all sorts of reasons at every stage but you just need to keep going even if it’s just watching 1 video or doing 1 exercise at a time !!"

User

"It feels like just watching videos is too easy but stick with the process. There’s so much to learn, you’ll start to stop blaming yourself for your clutter & you’ll recognise that small changes really make a difference."

User

"Be kind to yourself, set the bar low, watching just one video is enough. That way you won’t slip back to old habits like procrastination, (or telling yourself) I don’t have enough time now so I’ll not start."

User

"Attend the group sessions, you can be honest and not feel judged. You’ll share things with people you never expected to & that feels good. Other people know what the clutter challenge feels like & their progress inspires you to keep going."

User

"The journey takes as long as it takes, don’t put pressure on yourself to complete a certain step by a certain date. You’re moving at the pace that’s right for you now. The time invested will be so worth it at the end."

User

"My confidence has increased & seeing the progress I’m making even with one video at a time is such a positive boost."

User

"I definitely feel more confident about clearing my clutter now. I’m not watching the clutter clearing programs where a team of people blitz the house in a week anymore because I know that doesn’t work. Following my weekly planner & consistently spending time on the journey is making differences & they will last."

User

"I am calmer, less overwhelmed and focusing better."

User

"I’m doing less impulse buying now. Before starting my journey if I’d had a tough day at work I would have bought a new top or something pretty for the house to cheer myself up. Now if I have a bad day I’ll get a coffee or ice cream rather than things which end up in my clutter."

User

"Support from group keeps me motivated. It’s good to hear other people have struggled with the same things & I never feel judged. Family & friends don’t have same struggles & just want to fix things, group support is invaluable."

User

"Step 1 is mainly head work & tough going but once you start doing the exercises of finding out what you are spending all your money on & just how much is very eye opening you will be more determined than ever to see this journey through to the end. Just keep going."

User

"Take your time ; don’t be in a rush to get to where others are if ahead of you - your time will come 2. Just be prepared to be persistent & keep going - one foot in front of the other. It may not seem like things are changing but your habits are , slowly but surely - it will take time but it is worth it & you will never spend the rest of your life constantly blitzing your stuff & getting no where fast !!"

User

"Working with the Journey Group helped me to realize that I was not alone, lazy, or crazy for having a Clutter Challenge but, there was a new way to deal with it once and for all. The Journey Program and its guidance will help me to finally (safely) clear my Clutter forever. The best thing I can advise is to trust the Journey Process and keep going!"

User

"I have learned that there is a way out (of a cluttered life and home!). I truly believe that this Journey will continue to help me learn more about my clutter; reasons for it and how to finally manage it. Also.......it's not my fault! I'm not a bad or defective person for having clutter. The Clutter Clearing will get done.....but I don't have to do it overnight."

User

"Welcome to Your Clutter Clearing Journey! The best advice I can give to you is..... Do it slowly and safely.....one video at a time (even if it's only 15 minutes at a time). Just keep going and you will finish this!"

If you’re not ready to start your 7 Step Journey, maybe you’d like to try a LIVE Social Gatherings or take one of our online workshops?

HAPPY CLIENTS

Clare, I tell everyone how you 'way over in England' are helping me with my Clutter Clearing without ever entering my house. But I don't think I've told YOU yet. Thank you! I have learnt so much about WHY I've struggled with my clutter and HOW to finally clear it once and for all.

Hi Clare! I have to say that you are, without a doubt, the most motivating de-cluttering expert I have found.

I've spent a lot of money on useless books and read a lot of useless decluttering e-mail newsletters. You rock! I am so motivated now!

Sally, UK

Just to say THANK YOU for the habits and skills that I acquired thanks to you.

Not only have a decluttered my flat, but I have learned to be patient with myself and that it takes time.
