Secrets of Success – 10 Things You Can Do To Protect Your Journey Time

  1. Do your Wheel of Life review at the start of every term so you refocus and reprioritise your time. When you identify how you are going to improve your wheel (Step 6 of the Review) add those details to your Best Life Script for that term e.g.  I am improving my Physical Environment / Clutter segment of my Wheel of Life by working on my Journey for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. I am doing that by doing my weekly planner and following it EVERY DAY. 
  1. Start your day by reading / listening to your Best Life Script. That will help your conscious and subconscious brain recognise what really matters to you, and focus on doing things that get you closer to your Best Life throughout the day, thereby making it easier to ignore distractions
  1. Do your weekly planner once a  week, and follow it each and every day. Yes, it is that simple!  
  1. When you do your weekly planner, make sure (as advised) you have at least 2 contingency blocks of time so that if a genuine emergency happens you don’t sacrifice your Journey time, but can move whatever was in that block of time on your weekly planner to a contingency block of time
  1. Remove distractions. E.g. Turn off notifications while you’re working on your Journey so that you don’t get distracted by calls, or have texts or e-mails popping up on your digital device
  1. Work on your Journey videos at the same time on the same days each week. Not only will that make it easier for you to get into a routine of ‘doing the doing’, it will also be easier for other people to know when you are (and are not) available
  1. Learn to say ‘not right now’ to people. It is a form of self-respect for YOUR priorities. It shows you’re willing to help them just not right now, and is generally not as difficult to say as a hard ‘no’
  1. Accountability. Many people find it hard to make time to do things for themselves, but easier to do things if they know it’s helping someone else. Having an appointment to work on your Journey with others can help because you’re more likely to feel like you’re letting the other person down if you don’t turn up. If you’re paying for that time (e.g. Private Journey) it’s even easier to turn up!
  1. Share your Best Life Script to help people understand why being on your Journey is important to you. Tell them that you struggle to protect your Journey time and ask for their help to make sure you ‘Do the Doing’, whether that’s by being part of your reward after ‘doing the doing’, or them planning family or group activities around the days and times you’re working on your Journey
  1. Manage your perfectionism. One of the most common reasons why people don’t protect their Journey time is because they’re trying to do too much, so instead do less more often. It’s more important to get into a routine of being the minimum Successful Snail doing 30 minutes a day,     3 times a week than being a rigid rock one week, and a Powerful Elephant the next.
