Be More Elephant

Be More Elephant

Be More Elephant

On our Clutter Clearing Journey we use some elephant analogies, for example breaking down the elephant and being a powerful elephant.

So, it should be no surprise that our Journey to our Clutter Free Best Life can be described as us becoming more like an elephant.

Let me explain. The elephant is know for making deliberate movements, and exuding a quiet, calm  confidence.

They are also known to be highly intelligent, sensitive and caring, moving easily through life, overcoming almost every obstacle that they encounter (except humans).

As you think about how you want your Clutter Free Best Life to be, you might want to add ‘exude a quiet, calm confidence moving easily through life, overcoming almost every obstacle I encounter.’ Here are 10 signs that you are becoming more elephant.

1. You Avoid Drama

You no longer create or react to other people’s drama because you no longer want or need the attention. You no longer feel the need to people please by getting drawn into other people’s need for attention. The elephant assesses the situation calmly and knows that things are rarely as serious or frightening as they initially seem. The elephant knows that some people’s self-esteem is dependent on the attention they get from turning situations into dramas, and that no amount of time, attention, or help that you give that person will make a difference because they don’t want help or advice – they want the attention. The elephant knows it can care without the drama, and that any attention it gives to drama is at the expense of living its own Best Life. Instead, it quietly, calmly and confidently continues to move forward on its path towards it’s Best Life.

2. Accepting Change

When you’re an elephant you accept the things you can’t control and embrace change as a natural part of life. Our cave brain evolved to resist change, because change might risk our one objective in life – survival. Yet in the modern world change is not only natural, but also essential to survival. When you embrace change instead of resisting it, you’ll find life much calmer. Just as a river always flows towards the sea, when you stop trying to resist the inevitable changes in life, your life will naturally flow in the direction it’s meant to go. You find you don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future. You live in the present and future which enables you to experience the calm of a Clutter Free Best Life as an elephant.

3. You Become Your Priority

When you’re an elephant you prioritise yourself and know how to confidently say ‘no’ or ‘not right now’ to other people. In fact, it’s a necessary life skill if you want to successfully clear your clutter Forever.

It’s essential for you to protect your Clutter Clearing Journey time, and as a people pleaser, the only way you’re going to do that is by saying ‘no’ or ‘not right now’ – both to other people and yourself. You won’t be able to achieve a sense of calm and achieve your Clutter Free Life as an elephant unless you do. The calm, confident, powerful elephant knows it can’t look after the herd unless it’s looking after itself.

4. Self Care Routine

The Clutter Free quiet, calm, and confident elephant prioritises and practices self-care as part of their weekly routine for their mental and physical health. It doesn’t matter what that self-care is – reading, meditating, a walk in nature, daydreaming – as long as it’s prioritised, protected and practiced at least three time a week (ideally every day) for a minimum of thirty minutes. The elephant knows it won’t be calm without self-care as part of its weekly routine.

5. Quality Versus Quantity

The Clutter Free quiet, calm, and confident elephant prioritises quality over quantity in the use of their time and energy. You can’t do everything. You only have 168 hours a week. Trying to do 168 things in those 168 hours is not only unrealistic, but also never going to lead to a calm and Clutter Free Best Life as an elephant. Less really is more to an elephant.

6. Memories Versus Materials

The Clutter Free quiet, calm, and confident elephant prioritises activities, experiences, and memories over material possessions. Research shows that when people were asked what made them happy, most people recalled experiences rather than possessions. Spending time with people, taking a trip, going to an event are more significant than new clothes or a new gadget.

7. Confront, Deal, & Adapt

The Clutter Free quiet, calm, and confident elephant confronts change and deals with life crisis’ calmly, adapting where necessary, instead of trying to avoid change. In terms of your clutter, you don’t waste time turning a situation into a drama. After a brief adjustment to the situation or circumstances, you clear your mind and start working on a solution. You know getting stressed or anxious doesn’t help. You just get on and deal with it, ensuring you practice self-care when the crisis over, or if it’s a longer period of changing circumstances, you simply adjust your priorities accordingly.

8. It’s Not Personal

You stop taking things personally or judging yourself and others. You no longer feel responsible for how other people feel, and you realise everyone is responsible for how they respond. You learn to manage your perfectionism, and you’re not afraid to make mistakes. This significantly reduces your stress, which enables you to fully experience your calm Clutter Free Best Life.

9. Positive Default

You notice more positives, joy and gratitude’s in life than negatives. You realise you don’t need to have cleared all your clutter to recognise the positives, joys and gratitude’s in your day, and the value that experiences and people bring to your life. Only when you notice, acknowledge, and appreciate the joyin small – yet significant – things will you be able to notice that your glass is half full, even when it’s half empty.

10. Inner Calm

You’re not afraid to be alone to rest, recharge, process and reflect, because you know there’s a difference between being alone and feeling alone. You’re not afraid to ask for help when you need it.  Knowing all this gives you an inner calm to focus on living your Best Life.

When you live like an elephant, you realise you don’t need to be validated by others or prove you are happy.
